God’s Amazing Grace:
ABWE Hong Kong Sends Missionary to Thailand
Annie Langston, Thailand
Commissioning prayer for Grace Kwok
Just two years ago, the Hong Kong ABWE churches accomplished a major milestone with the formation of their own mission board, calling it the ABWE Hong Kong Missions Center. One year ago, this missions center sent out their first couple to Durban, South Africa. On April 22, 2007, their third missionary, Grace Kwok, was commissioned. Nearly 300 people showed up to show their love and support for Grace, including representatives from nearly all the Hong Kong ABWE churches, Grace’s future Filipinos coworkers, the leader of the Thai fellowship of churches, and ABWE missionaries.
Grace has had a burden for the people of northern Thailand for many years. Saved in high school twenty years ago, she has faithfully served on staff at Heritage Baptist Church in Hong Kong for nearly thirteen years. In that time, she has made several mission trips to Thailand and was instrumental in initiating short-term trips for the people of her church. Once the ABWE-Hong Kong Missions Center was established, Grace decided to follow God’s leading and to head for Thailand as a full-time missionary. After initial language study, she will be serving alongside the PABWE missionaries in the northern city of Chiangrai. Fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, she hopes to use “teaching Chinese as a second language” as a tool to build bridges for evangelism. Thousands of Chinese and Thai live in northern Thailand in what is called the Golden Triangle, where the countries of Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand share borders and China is only 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) away.

Pray for Grace as she finishes up her responsibilities in Hong Kong and says goodbye to family, friends, and colleagues. Pray for her adjustment to a new culture, her language study, and her relationships within the unique partnership between Thais, Filipinos, Chinese, and Americans. Pray that her heart’s desire to see Thais won to Christ will soon be realized as she willingly follows and obeys her Lord.
