Mobilization Moves West

By By S.G.D. 4/11/03

Geoff WilliamsABWE is opening a new Missionary Mobilization office on the West Coast. Geoff Williams is the new Director of Missionary Mobilization, Western Region, and will also serve as the Associate in Church Relations for the Southwest Region.

The office will be located in the Bible Department of The Master's College. Williams, as Director, will be available to travel anywhere in the region and to coordinate more corporate office ministries and opportunities. As a crucial contact in the region, he will be able to provide support for current church partners and pave the way for partnering with other churches that don't yet "know" ABWE, by introducing them to missions endeavors.

Williams hopes the new office will "bridge the distance between Harrisburg and West Coast and serve churches in Western United States . We want to make all the aspects of ABWE's ministry-Mobilization, Church Relations, Planned Giving, Publications, etc.- more accessible to pastors and churches here, without duplicating the efforts of the Home Office. Our greatest desire is to effectively minister to the needs of local churches-we want them to have access to an immediate ABWE contact and to feel confident of ABWE's presence."

Outreach Potential

An example of the kind of projects which the office will coordinate is the "boot camp" for Expedition which Rick Caynor holds in Southern California, as he prepares high school and college students for short-term missions trips.

The new office has a great potential for outreach, especially among ethnic churches and communities. The huge diversity of cities like Los Angeles provides extraordinary opportunities to get other ethnic groups involved in missions. "Imagine," says Williams, "having Hispanic seminaries and churches send Hispanic missionaries to Hispanic countries. You could avoid culture shock, language training, the whole "Ugly American" syndrome, and just leap straight into missions."

Geoff and Beth Williams were ABWE church planters in Colombia for eight years, providing leadership training and discipleship. Beth is a graduate of Baptist Bible College and Geoff is a graduate of The Master's College, with some training from The Master's Seminary. They have two children, Aubrey, age six, and Miranda, age two.

ABWE also has Associates in Church Relations in other regions, including Gerald Cudney in the Northwest, and Dale Fogg in the South.
