ABWE World Prayer Ministry
John and Cindy Koster were appointed to Australia in 1980 and
served in church planting and field administration. Health problems
forced them to return to the United States and in 1995 John began
his work as the International Director of World Prayer.
A recent survey of ABWE missionaries revealed that over three
million printed requests cross the globe each year- an amazing
amount of information enabling people to pray for world evangelization.
Christians are being informed in thousands of churches and homes
across North America. Missionaries count on their supporters to
seek God's provision and power for the task of advancing the gospel
through intercessory prayer.
The ABWE prayer ministry seeks to provide information and encouragement
to those who are praying. The purpose of the prayer ministries
is to network missionaries with those who are praying specifically,
consistently and fervently for world evangelism. For several years
Dr. Kempton has carried a vision for an ABWE ministry encouraging
prayer for worldwide evangelism. His desire is that we track the
needs of our missionaries daily in order to have the most current
prayer requests. These requests are distributed to sending and
supporting churches, as well as to our entire ABWE missionary family.
He also envisions a ministry within local churches promoting prayer
for global evangelism.
The missionary prayer movement has ridden on the back of monthly
or quarterly prayer letters from the missionary to his supporters.
With the advent of e-mail this workhorse has sprouted new wings.
The vital link between the missionary and his prayer network is
irreplaceable, but we need to enlarge that link. ABWE now publishes
a weekly prayer digest that collects current requests from field
prayer coordinators. Each Monday via e-mail we send out these requests
along with prayer letter summaries and communications to the Harrisburg
office. If you desire to pray for the needs and opportunities of
the ABWE world, you can stay current in your ministry of intercession.
Sign on to the weekly prayer digest by sending an e-mail request
to prayer@abwe.org.
The latest technology alone cannot carry us forward to success
in penetrating the spiritual darkness of our world.
- We must become so thirsty for God's glory and for the accomplishment
of His purposes that we are moved to pray fervently.
- We must
be so convinced of the desperate situation of the lost that we
are moved to pray consistently.
- We must be so assured of God's
promises that we are moved to pray specifically for those who
are carrying the gospel and planting
churches.
"Every step in the progress of missions is directly traceable to
prayer. It has been the preparation for every new triumph and
the secret of all success" A.T. Pierson
