First MBBC Graduate
By Dave Totman
Mathetes Baptist Bible College (MBBC) of Ghana celebrated its
first graduation on May 22, 1999. The school was started by ABWE
missionary Robert Dyer in 1993 to train Ghanaian men to lead their
churches. ABWE missionaries came to Ghana to serve Ghanaians, but
the Lord is also allowing them to build lives for serving and rebuilding
in other West African nations.
Jerome Siakor, a Liberian, his wife, and three small boys fled
Liberia when civil war tore their homeland apart. God led them
to Ghana and MBBC. Jerome was an outstanding student, and accelerated
finishing his program in order to return to Liberia.
Jerome realizes his responsibilities will be overwhelming. Many
Liberian Christians will have high expectations of him as a Bible
college graduate. He has been approached about becoming an AWANA
missionary in Liberia; he expects to pastor a new church plant,
and anticipates playing a key role in the African Fundamental Baptist
Mission.
Jerome was the catalyst in initiating a partnership between ABWE-GAP
Ministries and the African Fundamental Baptist Mission. Through
his and AFBM's invitation, ABWE developed annual two-week training
sessions for more than 20 churches. In September, more than 200
people gathered in the city of Gbarnga, Liberia for leadership
training. All this through the vision of a Liberian, trained in
Ghana, who had a love and vision for his own people.
