God's Word Applied to Life's Problems

In 2 Peter 1:3 we read, "His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness." Knowing this to be true, I wanted Brazilian pastors to learn to apply God's Word to mankind's needs. Hope Baptist Church gave us the use of an office with two adjoining classrooms, and in March 1999 we opened with the following two goals:

the formation of the Biblical Counseling Center, and
the establishment of a Brazilian Association of Biblical Counselors.

The primary purpose of the Counseling Center is to offer ongoing training and practical experience to pastors and lay leaders who have completed the basic course in biblical counseling principles. The association will provide a network through which members will have access to literature, training seminars, consultation on difficult cases, and annual conferences for edification and encouragement.

Plans for the future include holding local seminars in strategic locations throughout Brazil, taking the program to Peru, and teaching biblical counseling principles in the master's program at the Baptist Seminary.

Doors are open and interest in biblical counseling is high in Brazil. We praise God for the capable Brazilian couple who are working on the translation of additional material. The great need of the moment is for Brazilian co-workers-both men and women-who can be trained to build and carry on the ministry.
