Rainbow Orphanage

By Dee Donaldson

About five years ago a family from Holland came to Iquitos and started a home for needy children. The orphanage has since grown to a group of 35 children, some of whom are actual orphans and others whose parents cannot afford to support them.

The first director, a man who formerly held the post of tourist police, was well known to many of the missionaries. He asked ABWE missionaries to minister to the children's spiritual needs. Carol Ciocca and I picked up on this opportunity.

In October 1996, we began two Bible classes to cater to the younger and older age groups. After a few months, we began to train two Peruvian young people to help with the task.

Our tourist police friend has gone, but the current director is sympathetic to our classes. Nearly all the children have received Jesus Christ as Savior. The challenge now is to help them grow in their faith.
