The Spanish "Lion King"

By Larry & Jane Parks

ABWE missionaries in Toledo, Spain, Larry and Jane Parks, had an unusual evangelistic opportunity: a drama produced as a take-off on "The Lion King."

The Parkses wrote, "A local believer assisted us in writing the play. A young man in the church helped us re-arrange it for each situation, and another young adult wrote the tract we handed out at each performance. We made all the costumes and scenery, adapting each piece to the stage we inherited.

"We first offered to perform the play for a small town's fiesta. The mayor invited us to perform immediately prior to the free meal served to the whole town (pop: 4,000). Although we experienced trouble with the microphone system, more than 2,000 people heard the gospel and the plea to read God's Word. We were invited to do a repeat performance at the public school's closing program. After that, we were given permission to use civic centers in various parts of Toledo until the child actors outgrew their costumes! Our smallest attendance was slightly over 200. The drama was used to create a thirst for God and His Word."
