New Life Pre-Natal Center
Peru's only CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER, according to Focus
on the Family studies, reports exciting results in its first year
of operation.
Vanessa, age 19, thought an abortion pill was the easy solution
to her unwanted pregnancy. But the image of her 10-week child with
its tiny hands and feet prompted a flood of nightmares, flashbacks,
and other expressions of distress. When a university friend referred
Vanessa and her boyfriend to the New Life Pre-Natal Center for post-abortion
counseling, a counselor from a local Baptist church led the weeping
young people to eternal forgiveness in Christ. One month later,
a volunteer doctor at the Center determined that Vanessa was 4-1/2
months pregnant; the young girl had been carrying twins, and the
abortion pill did not terminate the life of the second baby. Now
married and the parents of a healthy baby girl, this couple continues
to study the Bible.
When she was six months pregnant, Liliana arrived at the New Life
Pre-Natal Center seeking an abortion to end her unplanned pregnancy.
Liliana's counseling covered the value of the life she carried inside
her body, as well as the value of eternal life. On her seventh visit
to the Center, Liliana accepted Christ as Savior and began attending
a local church with her entire family. Her husband and eight-year-old
son also have been saved. Liliana now hopes to volunteer at the
Center when her infant daughter is older.
Not only does New Life Pre-Natal Center seek to save the lives
of unborn children through counsel on sexual abstinence and other
biblical principles, it also seeks to save the souls of Peruvian
adults. Of the 250 women who have been served at the Center, over
50 have trusted Christ as Savior.
This is just the beginning of an evangelistic outreach that local
Peruvian churches and ABWE missionaries plan to expand to include
a second center in the mountain city of Tarma some time in the year
2000, preventative education classes in local schools and churches,
and printing and distributing both gospel and educational literature.
Specific needs for the Center include:
- an overhead projector for educational classes;
- printing the literature used in the Center;
- furnishing the branch center in Tarma;
- securing a home for unwed mothers; and
- training local Christians as counselors, office workers, and
educators.
