Why Urban Evangelism?

That's where the people are.

Cities are strategic centers of commerce, culture, and business.

Why do people come to the cities?

  • Poverty in the rural areas; land is used up
  • Scarcity of jobs
  • Poor quality of education
  • Glitter of the lights
  • Hope of a better life

What are the special pressures of the city?

  • Pace of life. Some people have a 2-hour or more commute and are too tired to attend church services.
  • The poor who move into disease-ridden slums.
  • Every Third World city has its garbage community.

What are the opportunities in urban evangelism?

  • When people are uprooted and away from family and social pressures, they are often more open to change.
  • Evangelism and church planting is never finished in a growing and expanding city. There will always be a need for more church planters, especially among the middle-and upper-middle class people.
