Blessing Durban:
The Decade Of A Movement
ABWE entered Durban, South Africa in 1982. Since that time, the
work has grown from one church to nine, spreading from the Durban
metropolitan area to Richards Bay, two hours north of the city.
Strategy of the ABWE Durban team
Working as a team with South African pastors and lay people to
build churches actively reaching their neighborhoods and the world
for Christ.
Goal of Blessing Durban
To put 10 churches into 10 buildings within 10 years.
That means one church building under construction every year for
the next decade.
Existing congregations receive a Blessing Durban loan to build
facilities. As they repay the money to the Blessing Durban Fund,
money becomes available for the next generation of churches. By
repeating this process over and over, future church-planting efforts
are assured of capital with which to build.
Why does Durban need a loan fund?
- Commercial interest rates in South African begin at 12% and
fluctuate up to 18% or higher.
- God wants us to be good stewards of the resources He gives us.
Capital Needed:
$50,000 per year for eight years = $400,000 total
The first church to benefit from Blessing Durban was Fellowship
Baptist Church of Durban North. Pastor Vic Willis and his congregation
moved into their new building in December 2000 with great praise
and thanksgiving to God.
