A Bridge to Cuba?

Someday there might be one.

In the meantime, you can help build bridges to the pastors and Christian workers in Cuba through the Cuba Book Project.

The Background

For six years, Larry Smith, Executive Director of Central America and The Caribbean, has taught in a seminary in central Cuba. His last class consisted of 41 students currently involved in pastoral ministry in Cuba. When these students leave the seminary, they have no access to Christian books. They need BOOKS to serve as a resource for continued study.

The Goal

To purchase, ship, and distribute 400 mini-libraries of approximately 30 books each for 400 pastors in Cuba. These books are not available in Cuba, and most pastors could not afford such a library. The books will not only enrich the lives of the Cuban pastors but also serve as resources for their teaching and preaching ministries.

The Need

$130,000 to cover, the purchase price of the books, the cost of shipping them to Cuba, paying taxes, and distributing the libraries.

Current Status (as of September, 2001)

The Cuban government has approved the project concept and is currently reviewing the book titles we have requested. Several book distributors have agreed to supply books at reduced rates.

We thank God and you for the $80,000 already given for this project.

As soon as the Cuban government approves the titles and quantities of books, they will be purchased, and necessary shipping arrangements made. An ABWE team-along with the Cuban pastors we work with-will oversee book distribution.
