Children's Corner
A true account from WIN Ministries
Have
you ever met a missionary kid (MK)? They may live in a different
country and probably try foods you might think are strange (like
fried grasshoppers and cow brains) Their school may be different
than yours. Their friends may look and dress a lot different than
you do. They may even know how to speak a foreign language.
Deep down inside, though, MKs are just like you. Good things happen
to them and bad things happen, too. They have to trust God just
as you do.
One family with WIN Ministries has four kids. These MKs climb
trees, play soccer, play dress up, and hang out with their friends.
Two of their African friends are a brother and sister named Robert
and Oliver who live near the missionaries' house. Oliver is a girl-her
name is pronounced O-li-va. Robert and Oliver's dad died a long
time ago. Their mom, Mary, worked for the missionaries. Her smile
was big and bright. Mary loved her kids and the MKs, and they loved
her, too.
Then Mary started to get sick. She got sicker and sicker. Tests
showed she had AIDS. That is a terrible disease that many people
in Africa get. So far there is no cure for it.
Mary wanted to go back to her home village. The MKs had to say "goodbye" to
Robert and Oliver. In a few weeks, Mary died. The MKs were sad
but they remembered Mary had believed in Jesus. She is in heaven
now. She can smile again, and best of all, she is with Jesus.
Robert and Oliver live far away now. Since they are orphans, they
could not afford to go to school. But WIN missionaries are paying
so that they-and many other orphans-can go to school.
Missionary kids see things that are sad, but they also see wonderful
things like people believing in Jesus. God wants all His children
to show His love to others no matter what country they live in.
That includes not just missionaries, but missionary kids as well.
And that includes YOU.
You know you're a missionary kid when…
- You think fish tastes
better raw than cooked.
- Eating spaghetti with chopsticks is
easier than using a knife and fork.
- You're the only person
you know who has ridden on the TOP of a bus.
- The only time
your mom lets you go barefoot is in church.
- You hear a Christian
song that you know better in a foreign language than in English.
- You
decide at age six that when you grow up, you want to be a missionary
where nobody knows the gospel.
