World Cup - Korea 2002
If
you love God and enjoy culture and sports, this is for you! After
the success of the evangelistic outreach at the Olympics in Atlanta
(1996) and Sydney (2000), the ABWE-Asia team prayed about sending
a team to the World Cup soccer tournament. Since several million
fans from nearly every country converge on this massive event, it
is a golden opportunity to share the gospel. Essentially, this is
the Great Commission in reverse. Instead of you going into all the
world, the whole world comes to you!
In June 2002, a team of six (three from Asia, three from the United
States) met in South Korea. Beginning in the capital, Seoul, we
followed fans to games in six cities scattered around the country.
For ten days, we passed out over 4,000 tracts and witnessed to people
from many tribes and nations. Thanks to Gospel Literature Services,
we had evangelistic booklets in 14 different languages, so many
people received a tract in their own language. We shared the Good
News with Bengalis, Chinese, Mexicans, Italians, and many others.
Praise
God for many open hearts, and for the privilege of working with
the Korean church to reach about one million guests who came to
see the soccer games. Only eternity will tell the impact of this
trip on their lives.
Please consider joining us for future sports evangelism trips.
We are praying for 200 to join us in Athens for the 2004 Olympic
Games.
