WIN: Building a Haven, Bringing Children to Heaven

In East Africa, disease ravages the land. Millions of children are orphaned by AIDS and thousands more by tribal wars.

Before the year 2010, 34 million people will have died from AIDS in Africa alone, leaving the continent with over 40 million orphans.

What hope is there for these children? Where will their haven be?

Through HAVEN, WIN Ministries is embarking on a new project to reach out to children in East Africa. In 2003, the WIN team would like to start building the East Africa Orphan Care Center, where we can assist and educate orphans by partnering with the community.

The center will be composed of a building with classrooms, meeting rooms, and administrative offices. Outdoor activity areas and living quarters for our team will also be included. "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans." (James 12:7).

The story of Mr. and Mrs. Nebasore is a common one in East Africa. The Nebasores have five children. They also have AIDS. Because they can only afford life-prolonging AIDS medications for one person, they have made a life-and-death pact. Mr. Nebasore will receive the medications because he is the primary breadwinner. "We don't have the money to help both him and me,"Mrs. Nebasore said to a WIN team member. "If I die, at least you will be there to take care of the children."

Mrs. Nebasore's children and the other orphans of Africa need not only a home and care for their physical needs-they need a Savior. In the East Africa Orphan Care Center, HAVEN will seek to meet both the physical and the spiritual needs of children orphaned by AIDS.
