We Start With Prayer
By Cindy Carmer
Before being appointed with ABWE, I taught first grade in a Christian
school. My favorite part of the day was our morning devotions and
prayer time. I collected prayer requests so we could pray specifically
for nations, ministries, and individuals.
Now, as a member of the ABWE home office team, my favorite part
of the day is from 8:30-9:00 each morning, when we gather to pray.
Prayer requests come from donors, churches, missionaries, and home
office staff; sometimes we know the folks well, at other times we
have yet to meet those needing our prayers.
At times we are reminded that perhaps the most important thing
we do each day is to spend those thirty minutes before the throne
of God. We can’t explain how, but we know that prayer moves the
hand of God to do what we are powerless to do. I still remember
the blessing in 1989 of learning that our prayers for the country
of Albania were being answered. After seventy years of communism,
the only “officially atheistic country” in the world was softening
to the gospel. My first grade students were not at all surprised
by this news—after all, they had been praying and expecting God
to answer.
Did you take time to “pray through” the last issue of our magazine?
Maybe you prayed for each one of the newly appointed missionaries
by name, for the country and ministry God has called them to, and
for their needed prayer and financial support. You will find that
when you commit yourself to a ministry of intercession the Lord
will bring across your path many people and needs that you can invest
in through your prayers. Let’s trust Him together to change lives
and the world through our prayers.
