Dr. Loftis Announces the Executive Director of ABWE’s Missionary Care Division

For several years, ABWE has sought to meet the special needs of our missionary families and singles through our various offices and departments. The time has come for all of those ministries to be coordinated by one special leader with a pastor’s heart and a love for missionaries. God has answered our prayers and led us to the right couple to oversee this ministry in Pastor and Mrs. Ron Berrus. — Dr. Michael G. Loftis

Ron Berrus grew up on a farm in northern New York and became a Christian after high school. During his college years at SUNY Morrisville, he was discipled through the ministries of Campus Bible Fellowship and a faithful local pastor. After completing an AAS in Forestry, he transferred to Baptist Bible College; shortly after arriving there, he sensed a clear call from God to the ministry of the Word. While at BBC, Ron met his wife, Val, an Elementary Education major, and they were married in 1976. The Berruses have three sons and a daughter, all of whom are either in ministry or in training for ministry.

Following several years of ministry at First Welsh Baptist Church in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, the Berruses moved to Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, in 1985, and have pastored there for the last nineteen years. During their time at Bellefonte, ten of their church families have gone into career missions, and the Berruses have worked with each of them through discipleship, training, calling, and prefield ministry.

Pastor Berrus says, “We are humbled by the opportunity to now work full time with ABWE in doing what we love to do – minister to missionaries.

"We are passionate about evangelism and discipleship, and equipping and encouraging fellow laborers. The new Missionary Care Division exists to facilitate member care for the entire ABWE mission family. This will be done through participation with caregivers, including sending churches and pastors, member-care specialists, administrators, and field councils, in order to equip effective, caring communities of kingdom laborers. We will devote ourselves to training and participating in spiritual enrichment, encouragement, and renewal. We want every ABWE missionary to sense and experience meaningful support from fellow-laborers, administrators, pastors, churches, and sending teams. Please pray for us as we labor to fulfill a Barnabas-type ministry in our ABWE family.”
